Tony Voce (vOHs) fulfilled a lifelong dream of thousands of kids of all ages around town this summer when he inked a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, becoming the first Philly native to ever sign with the club.

Voce starred for the previous four seasons with Boston College, where he recorded 90 goals, 77 assists for 167 career points and 209 penalty minutes in 159 games played. During the 2003-04 season, Tonyӳ quick stick lit the lamp 29 times, the second most goals in the nation. He led his team in points (47), power play goals (12) and was honored as a Hobey Baker Finalist. This season, the 23-year-old center is making a fine pro debut with the AHLӳ Philadelphia Phantoms, ranking among the leagueӳ rookie leaders with 19 points on 8 goals and 11 assists.

The PhantomsҠfront office is pleased with Voceӳ production this year and he knows what it takes to succeed in a city that doesnӴ always show its brotherly love to their athletes. While heӳ never been the biggest skater on the ice, at 5-foot 8, Tony plays with plenty of grit and determination, which makes him a fan favorite. That he can produce might make NHL fans downright giddy. He'd certainly like to join the Liberty Bell, the Philly Cheesesteak, and American Bandstand as another Philly fixture. We think that he has got a good shot at the Flyers when they ramp up in 2006... or 2007... or....
