Synthetic Ice has had many producers over the years, it has been Commercially and Publicly available and used since the early Sixties, but because of the styles in which it was produced, such as, Butt or Spline jointing, it was an unmanageable product for the fact of it's expansion and contraction, when this happened it would cause the product to separate, which would result in open gaps in the main skating surface causing a lot of down or dead time because the areas had to be re-aligned and this was not a simple task due to the weight of the product and or the size of the rinks, and as well the main concern being the safety factors of the skaters involved. The older version of materials that were used were also of different grades of Polyethylenes that did not wear well or that required Silicone additives to be added to the surface to increase the glide factor, this did increase the motion, but would tend to build up and become dirty from air born dust particles and also use, leaving behind a greasy and hard to clean to surface, which to say the least was not very good for your equipment as it would also tend to stain all it came in contact with, all these factors combined have tarnished athletes and skaters and as well the general public perception of Synthetic Ice over the years.

The years have come and gone, material compositions have changed greatly, allowing for better wear and stability, which will add only to the products life, but also additives to create a Ultra Violet stabilized products which could now expand upon the areas in which Synthetic Ice can be used, no more would skating be restricted to cold temperatures outdoors in the winter or to refrigerated indoor areas in the summer, now you can use it anywhere, such as your basement, in your garage, or even out on your deck in the back yard, at any time, and as well in any season. Expansion and Contraction issues have been greatly reduced, or are almost now nonexistent due to technologically advanced ways of joining the panels together. Glide and or travel on the material has also been greatly increased with newer cleaner versions of enhancers that have been developed and are now available.

Having been in the Plastics Industry for almost 28 years I have been witness to many changes in Materials and as well, many Industries.

I'm am also now witness to the birth of new Synthetic Ice products available on the market to-day, designed for the average family, who wish to train their children in hockey or skating, or may just want to create a tighter nit atmosphere where the family can reside and spend time together and play, which ever your choice is, the newer Synthetic Ice products are well worth looking into, you won't be dis-appointed!!
